AVID Students Make Lunch Presentation May 2

Anacortes AVID students and program advisors described the program at the club’s May 2 meeting. Pictured from left are Kecia Fox, Anacortes High School assistant principal, students Jack Murphy, Alizee Hargrove, Megan Rowell, Madison Richardson and AVID field trip coordinator Deanna Hope.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The Anacortes School district implemented this nationally recognized college preparatory program in 2008. The district now has an AVID elective class in each grade 7-12.

Anacortes Rotary supports the AVID through grants of $6-$7,000 per year to fund student field trips to colleges in the region. AVID also provides tutorial and community mentor programs to assist with college preparation.

AVID has been a designated recipient of Fall Auction “raise the paddle” funding at several past fundraisers.
